Introduction

Racket sports are a group of sports played with rackets or other similar hand-held devices. The term “racket” is derived from the wooden racquets used in these games, which have been popular in Europe since at least the 15th century.

The most commonly known racket-based sports are badminton, tennis and table tennis; however, other games such as squash were originally played with rackets instead of balls too.

1. Badminton

Quick trivia: What sport uses a shuttle cock? Badminton it is!

Badminton is a sport played by two people (singles) or four people (doubles).

It is played with a racquet, shuttlecock and net. The shuttlecock used in this game has feathers on the top of it which are designed to fly through the air like an arrow.

It can also be made out of plastic or feathered material but these are less common than those made from feathers due to the latter’s ability to travel farther distances at higher speeds than their counterparts made from other materials.

2. Table tennis

Table tennis is played on a table, which can be up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) long. The player’s racket is made of wood and has a net at the end to prevent balls from going out of bounds or hitting spectators in the front row.

The player uses two paddles—one for each hand—to hit the ball back and forth against an opponent’s paddle until one side loses its point.

This game can be played by two people or four people who play in pairs or trios; however, if more than 4 participants are allowed then they are divided into two teams.

3. Lawn tennis

Lawn tennis is probably the most popular racket sport in the world. It was invented by Major Walter Clopton Wingfield in 1873 and became one of the first official lawn tennis tournaments held at Wimbledon in London in 1877.

The first organized international competition for lawn tennis was the Davis Cup which was founded in 1900 by two American representatives, James van Norden and William Larned, who were both players from New York City (Van Noren’s residence).

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) was formed in 1913 as an international governing body for this new sport that had been gaining popularity among wealthy British expats living abroad during World War I.

Tennis is played using a small rubber ball called a “racket” or “ball”.

The game can be played individually against another player or teams of two players each on courts made up of grass courts or synthetic surfaces such as carpeting over sandbags filled with water.

4. Squash tennis

Squash tennis is a game played with a squash racket and a squash ball. It was also created by the English in the early 19th century, and it’s one of the most popular racket sports today.

The game consists of two players facing each other from opposite sides of an octagonal court, separated by a small gap (called service line). The server’s goal is to reach his or her opponent’s service line; if this happens, that player loses the point.

5. Jai alai

Jai alai is a ball game played by two teams of five players each. Interestingly enough, this sport is rather unknown.

A player’s goal is to hit the ball into their opponent’s net, earning points for his team. The game is played in a court with walls 2 meters high, 8 meters long and 2 meters wide. The team that scores first wins the match by hitting nine balls in succession into their opponent’s basket.

Jai Alai has become one of the most popular sports in Spain and Latin America due to its simplicity, fun nature and low cost compared to other professional sports such as soccer or baseball

6. Volleyball, Wheelchair volleyball & Sitting volleyball

Volleyball is played with a net and a ball. The ball can be hit to the opponent’s court which has a rectangular shape, or it can be played over their court. The sport is played by two teams of six players each, who take turns serving the ball to each other in an attempt to score points by hitting the ball into their opponents’ goal.

Wheelchair volleyball & sitting volleyball are popular paralympic sports in many countries, including the United States. It can be played indoors or outdoors and uses a ball and net as well as six players per team.

The court is divided into two halves by an imaginary line called the “service line” (which is usually at the center of each side). Each player must touch their service zone before returning to their half of play; if they miss their service, they will be penalized.

7. Footbag net

A footbag net is a game played by two or more players. It is an indoor sport that involves kicking a bag with the feet, in order to score points and win the game. Footbag nets are usually played on an indoor court, but there are also some outdoor versions of this game as well.

You can play footbag nets using a standard rackets ball but you can also use other balls like foam balls or even ping pong balls if you want (although these may be harder to see). The main objective when playing this sport is to try and get your opponent’s footbag out of your end zone so they don’t score any points while they’re still within it!

There are many variations of how many players participate in each match depending on whether it’s just two people playing against each other or whether there will be more than two players involved in one match!

Badminton is a racquet sport played by two or four players in a rectangular court with high, net-curtained walls. The object of the game is to play the shuttlecock over the net and into your opponent’s court.

To achieve this you must hit a small feather-made object called shuttlecock across your opponent’s side of the court without letting it hit the ground (or floor) before it reaches your side of the table.

The game can be played indoors or outdoors on any smooth surface (such as concrete). It is called court.

It was invented in England but was not widely adopted until about 1880 when its popularity increased significantly because it offered an alternative form of exercise for people who did not want to join clubs or participate in sports like tennis or baseball.
